Convert Grid Value Type

(Select a single 3D grid file)

Use this operation to change the internal data value format for 3D grid files.

A 3D Grid file can be exported as a 3D grid with another grid value format. As an example a Double Floating Point value grid saved as a Single Floating Point grid, will save 50% disk and memory space. In most cases this will not result in any data loss.

Changing discrete value grids to floating point grids will not result in any loss. However, changing format from floating point to discrete value will result in data loss if the values in the floating point grid exceeds the value limits for the discrete grid.

Floating Point → Discrete Grid
Converting floating point grids to a discrete grid format can be carried out using two methods.

Simple Round → Nearest Discrete Number: The floating point values are simply rounded to the nearest whole number.
Floating Point Value Interval → Discrete Symbol Value: In this method floating point value intervals are converted to specified whole numbers (symbol value).
