LARCOS Overwrite points tool
Preparetion
Draw the areas on the map by Digitize a Region or use shape files and convert to regions like this Create a region from a Shapefile.
Required data
Model areas
The areas used for overwriting must be defined as polygons (regions).
Interpretation databases
The tool requires a source interpretation database and a destination interpretation database representing the same model. Corresponding tables must:
- Have the same names.
- Use the same coordinate system (EPSG code).
The databases do not need to be imported into GeoScene3D before using the tool.
How points are overwritten
The tool replaces interpretation points within a defined area, referred to below as the effective overwrite area. For each selected table, the tool:
- Deletes all existing points in the destination database within this area.
- Inserts points from the source database located within the same area.
Points outside the effective overwrite area remain unchanged.
Note: Replacement applies to the entire effective overwrite area. Existing destination points within this area are deleted even where the source database contains no points. The entire region is included, even where it extends beyond the scene extent.
The three panels show the original destination points, the destination after deletion, and the final result after inserting source points. Black points are original destination points; purple points are points copied from the source database.
Defining the effective overwrite area
The effective overwrite area depends on the selected area definition and any exclude area:
| All | Overlap area | |
|---|---|---|
| No Exclusion | The entire Area 1. | The overlap between Area 1 and Area 2. |
| Exclude area | Area 1 minus the exclude area. | The overlap between Area 1 and Area 2, minus the exclude area. |
Hatching indicates the effective overwrite area. Destination points are deleted and source points are inserted only within the hatched area. Within the exclude area, existing destination points are preserved and no source points are inserted.
Step-by-step workflow
From the Main menu open the Tool
- Choose the overwrite area definition:
- Overlap: overwrite only interpretation points located within the overlap between the source and destination areas.
- All: overwrite all interpretation points in the source area.
- Select the one or two model areas.
- Optionally select an exclude area. Interpretation points located inside this area will not be deleted and none will be inserted.
- Select the source interpretation database containing the interpretation points to copy.
- Select the destination interpretation database where the interpretation points will be overwritten within the selected area. Existing interpretation points in the destination database will be deleted, and interpretation points from the source database within the selected area will be inserted in the destiantion database.
- The tool checks that the source and destination interpretation databases contain matching tables with the same names and EPSGs. The EPSG for the points is shown in paranthesis after the table name, e.g. (25832).
- Select the tables.
- Choose whether to create a backup of the destination interpretation database before replacing interpretation points.
- Run the replacement or backup-and-replacement process.
- Existing interpretation points in the destination interpretation database are overwritten with the corresponding interpretation points from the source interpretation database for the selected area and tables, except for interpretation points inside the selected exclude area.
