The Profile Generator can be used to generate a new group of profiles.

Generate Within This Area

The profiles are generated within a rectangular area oriented either north-south or east-west. The buffer distance is half the profile spacing so that all data in the area will be on one and only one profile.

Profile Object

A Profile is basically a fence object with Blanking capabilities. A profile can also be shown in a profile window. See the description of Blanking. In a profile the center plane fence may or may not be visible. When the profile blanking is active solid layers may be shown at the same position as the profile fence. In that case the profile fence should be turned off.

Profile Window

The profile window shows a profile in a traditional 2D fashion. Data are projected onto the vertical profile fence from both sides of the fence. Because of the projection the exact position of data in 3D is not so easy to see. However, it is easier to compare and correlate the position of data vertically. 2D profiles are an important tool in geological modeling.

Segy Profile Object

The Seismic SEGY profile import is very simple. There is no time to depth conversion and it is up to the user to specify the top and bottom elevation of the seismic profile, which is then “streached” accordingly. This corresponds to a time to depth conversion with a constant velocity.
