====== Add 3D Files ====== This tutorial will show how to add objects from 3D files like *.3ds (3D Studio Max) to a project. ==== Requirements ==== === Data === You can use any project e.g. the project you created in the tutorial: [[:geoscene3d:setup_a_new_project:createnewproject|Creating a New Project]].\\ \\ **Freeform File Types** \\ Below is listed the Freeform file types which is possible to visualize in GeoScene3D:\\ 3D Studio Max File (*.3ds)\\ GNU Triangulated Surface (*.gts)\\ Lightwave (*.lwo)\\ Milkshape (*.ms3d)\\ Normal Mapper (*.nmf)\\ NURBS (*.nurbs)\\ Wavefront (*.obj)\\ Triangular Irregular Network (*.tin)\\ Virtual Reality Model (*.wrl) The most tested format is *.3ds - it is recommended to convert other formats than the above listed formats to *.3ds format. //**Note: Not all file formats have been tested properly for use in GeoScene3D.** // {{vimeo>491120087?large&autoplay|Video Tutorial}} ---- ==== Step 1. Add Object ==== 1. Right click the "Objects" node in the Object Manager to show the context menu. Go to the "New Object" sub menu and select "Freeform File". The "New Freeform File" node should show above the "Terrain" node in the Object Manager.\\ {{:tutorials:adddata:d0732d124d68719e2543023b1bbfcc50.png}}\\ \\ 2. Name the object "Freeform" in the "Name" edit box.\\ \\ 3. Go to the "Data" tab. In the "Freeform Dataset" box press the "Select…" button to open the "Dataset Manager". A new freeform dataset is created, press "Add" and the "Dataset Editor" is shown automatically.\\ \\ 4. Press the browse button […] next to the "Location" edit box to show the "Source Manager". In the "Type" drop down list select "File". Back in the "Dataset Editor" name the dataset "Liberty".\\ \\ 6. Press "OK" to close the "Dataset Editor". Make sure the dataset we just created is selected in the "Dataset Manager" and press "OK".\\ \\ 7. Press "Refresh Data" and then "Close" in the "Freeform File" property editor.\\ \\ 8. Configure Object ==== 1. Double click the object or node in the Object Manager to open the "Freeform File" editor.\\ \\ 2. Set "Easting" to 572000, "Northing" to 6215000, "Elevation" to 140, "Scale" to 5, and press "OK".\\ \\ 3. To locate the object, right-clicking the object in the object manager and select "Move Camera To Object Position".\\ \\ 4. Double click the object to open the "Freeform File" editor.\\ \\ 5. Got to the Material tab. Press the "Color" button and select a color of your choice. Press "OK" to close the editor. ==== Step 3.
