Generic Text

Generic Texts are text labels in 3D.

Generic Objects is a group of general object types based on tabular data. The data type is not dependent on any predefined data layout. Generic objects can be position either directly from positioning information in the tabular data, or alternatively by positioning the objects relative to other GeoScene3D objects.

To add a new Generic Text Object to your project, simply right-click the parent node in the tree view and select ”New Object”→”Generic Data”→”Text Object”. This launches the Generic Text Editor.

NOTE: The “Refresh Data” button must be pressed to refresh the data from source. The “Apply” button will only affect the visual appearance.

General Tab

Name: Object name as seen in the Object Manager
Visible: Show/Hide the object
Visible Distance: Beyond this distance objects are not visible. This distance should be short to improve performance.

Background
Visible: Show/Hide the background
Color: Select background color

Text
Text Height: Text height
Background Offset: Distance between background and the text. This value must be above zero.
Font: Select text font
Color: Select text color
Scale: Scale for text. For smaller signs set a value less than one.

Data Tab

Dataset: Select the tabular dataset.

Geometry Tab

Attribute Field Name
Text: Specifies the Field name of the value used for Generic Text.
Select the field that should be used for text in the drop down.

Position Tab

Defines the positioning of the Generic Object.

Positioning Strategy
Strategy: Choose a positioning strategy from the drop down. Depending on the strategy chosen, the settings for the selected strategy will appear below.
Absolute Positioning: Positioning is done using actual coordinate and elevation values from the tabular dataset.
2D Surface: The positioning is done true a combination of actual coordinates from the tabluar dataset, combined with an elevation value extracted from the surface specified.
Jupiter Wells: The positioning is done relative to an existing Jupiter Well object in the project. Fields for lookup of appropriate borehole number, is available. Elevation can be specified either directly from the tabular dataset or relative to a layer number.

Geographic Field Names
Active: Enalbes/disables the fields
X: Field name holding the X coordinate in the tabular dataset
Y: Field name holding the X coordinate in the tabular dataset

Vertical Field Name
Active: Enables/disables the fields
X: Field name holding the Z (vertical) coordinate in the tabular dataset
Elevation: select if values are elevation
Depth: Select if values are depth relative to terrain

Surface Fitting Options
Object Name: Name of the surface from wich Z values are extracted.

Jupiter Well Fitting Options
Object Name: Name of the Jupiter well object to be used for positioning.
BoreholeNo Field Name: Field name matching the BoreholeNo field in the jupiter database. Unique name of the well.

LayerNo Field Names
Active: Enables/disables the layerNo field. If disabled a Vertical Field Name must be specified instead.
Field Name: Name of the field matching the LayerNo field in the jupiter database. Note – Layers in the jupiter database is a 1 based count.
Top/Center/Bottom: Position of the generic object relative to the layer.

Links for external content is possible through the use of Link ’ s in the Generic Objects.
In the fields specified, numerous values may be added. E.g. relative path to photo ’ s, documents, spreadsheet or even URL for content on your intranet or the external internet. This feature makes it possible to launch external content and application, from within GeoScene3D.

Link Name: Name of the link you are adding
Field Name: Name of the field holding the parameters associated with the link. This could e.g. be a URL.
Type: Assiciates the link with an icon. Purely cosmetic for the user of the project you are setting up.
Add: Add ’ s the new link.
Remove: Removes the link currently selected in the overview.

Generic Object Information

Displays information about the object currently selected.

Item Name: Name of the object group the selected omject belogs to
Item Position: Position of the selected object
Item Information: List of information stored with the Generic Object.
External Link: List of links associated with the object selected. Activate the links by clicking the desired row in the list.
