Map layers may be added from four main source types. It is important to understand the difference between these layer source types to get the best use of maps.
Instructions for adding layers are also provided in the wizard.
Below is listed the four different layer types.
The map content is generated from a GeoScene3D dataset selected in the Dataset Manager. The dataset used in the layer is not always used and visible in 3D. The settings in the datasets, e.g., sql queries are affective in both 3D and in maps.
Dataset Based
Select: Select a GeoScene3D dataset from the Dataset Manager.
Clear: Clear a selected GeoScene3D dataset
Edit:
Individual datasets are edited and configured using the Dataset Editor.
The map content is generated directly from the geometry of 3D objects. This layer type is available for object types that are editable or not based on a GeoScene3D dataset.
Object Based
Available Objects: Object types that are editable or not based on a GeoScene3D Dataset.
Select All: Select all available objects
Deselect All: Deselect all available objects
Background theme from external source.
NOTE: Data in external layers are not visible as 3D objects, but features in ESRI shape files may be edited in the map.
External data layers are not limited to scene extent and is the recommended way to add map themes that serve as overview or background only. External vector layers are typically roads, city outlines, coastlines and so on. A map containing a few layers of nation wide data makes a good overview map. Bitmaps may also be added if they have an associated world file or tab file.
Existing External File
The layer is added from a file that already exists
Create New Empty Shape File
The layer is added from an empty shape file that is created. Select the type of shape (points, polylines or polygons) that may be added to the layer. The shape file can be edited in the Map Window.
Background theme from web service, Web Map Service (WMS) or Web Feature Service (WFS)
Note: As for all other map layers, the map layer provided by the web service will not be re-projected in GeoScene3D. Some web services allow setting the projection code in the url.
Web service
Web Service URL: Enter the URL address
Web Service Type: Select Web Map Service (WMS) or Web Feature Service (WFS) type
